Vegan Tips

Totally, Accidentally Vegan Foods

Ever stroll the aisles of the supermarket, watching other shoppers roll past by with their totally affordable (but non vegan) items and wish you could just grab some inexpensive, convenient and yummy items yourself? Being vegan doesn't have to be difficult. And you'll probably be surprised at what snacks are accidentally vegan...

For instance, let's say you need to whip up some cupcakes, brownies or a cake last minute. Most of us know the pleasure (and pain) of creating from-scratch vegan baked goods and meals. Unfortunately, this can become pricey quickly and can be absolutely time consuming. So here we are to bring you the normal, everyday things you can grab while you're rolling through the aisles of your local grocer, without hitting yourself in the wallet.

Cake/Cupcake & Brownie Mixes

doublefudge

Most cupcake and cake mixes are actually free of the milk, eggs and butter they call for in the recipe. Just be sure to double check ingredients,  but mostly they are just made up of flours, sugars and flavors.

Try the Duncan Hines Double Fudge Decadent Brownie mix for a fudgey cake or brownie batch!

Icing

icing

Icing doesn't have to be a pain in the butt either. Our favorite and inexpensive way to whip up a thick, fluffy batch? Vegan butter and powdered sugar! Just use your stand up mixer and add each one slowly until you get your desired icing texture. Add cocoa powder to make a delicious chocolate frosting, or fresh strawberries. YUM!

Chips/Snacks

doritos

If you are supposed to bring the chips and dip and are tired of tortilla chips (or don't want to show up with a veggie tray just to hear groans of disappointment, try Fritos corn chips, Doritos spicy sweet chili flavor or the Original Lay's chips or Ruffles Originals. Doritos, Fritos and Original Lay's are kind of a staple at most parties anyhow. Or if you want something less processed and with only a few ingredients just try grabbing a bag of pretzels and some organic peanut butter!

Snacks for Work/Trips

oreothins

If you need some truly pocketbook friendly munchies than grab some Nabisco 100 calorie pack Oreo thins, BBq Pringles, Wheat Thins Ritz Original crackers. (We recommend adding vegan cheese slices in between or you fave nut butter), Kettle brand Sea Salt & Vinegar chips or some Nature Valley PB granola bars.

While all of these snacks are certainly not of the healthy variety, we have all been to parties, gas stations and grocery stores where we have little time or very little cash on us and need a bite. It's always good to know your options, also this way you don't have to give up your morals to get some calories (aka energy) in your body. So next time you're at a party with chips, and crackers, you'll know when you can enjoy.
